We take joy in organizing events for family and friends, socializing, exchanging gifts, and enjoying the company of those we love. Yet as our relatives age, we may need to adjust our plans and expectations by taking into consideration the changes that come with aging.
My latest monthly column for Gannett Newspapers is entitled, “Be sensitive to aging family members’ desires during holidays.” The column discusses some things to consider when making plans for our aging relatives and friends, including physical changes in aging, communicating preferences for large or small gatherings, distance and length of travel, and stimulation of activities and parties.
