Thoughts on Adopting Person Centered Care

I had the pleasure of conducting a program for the Greater Cincinnati Health Council this week, entitled “Creating an Environment of Person Centered Care.” Some in health care have provided person centered care for years. However, state and federal initiatives and regulations will essentially force those traditionalists who have not embraced person over task to do so, and sooner rather than later.

Participants engaged in spirited conversation about why most providers are slow to enact this change in culture. Essentially, the primary theme is fear. Fear of change: in routine, expectations, duties, finances, and even job security.

Change is never easy. I’ll soon blog about the basics of culture change and leadership commitment, so stay tuned.
